You Don’t Need Money: German Quiz Contestant Fired After Winning 32,000 Euros

A woman who won 32,000 euros on the German version of “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” on Monday was brought back down to earth the next morning when her boss fired her via text message. Her employer reportedly told her, she doesn’t need the money … // 

… “It was my first job since my time at Daimler because I spent years looking after my little daughter who is now six,” Miller told Bild. She had been working four-hour shifts two days a week since August.

Salvadore S. told the paper: “No, it’s not heartlessness. But my business consists of three employees and at the moment there’s very little going on for seasonal reasons. So I’m thankful when I don’t have to pay an employee.”

Miller has yet to decide whether she will sue her former employer. One legal expert told the newspaper the dismissal was scandalous and that there was no legal basis for it. (full text).
