India for rendering borders irrelevant

From Daily Excelsior, India, by PTI, Sept. 9, 2006 – Observing that economically flourishing India is a “great opportunity” and not a threat to neighbours, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran today said New Delhi favours increased connectivity to render borders irrelevant and a number of proposals have been put forth in this direction.

India has proposed launch of cross-LoC bus services between Kargil and Skardu in PoK and Jammu and Sialkot and suggested opening of another border trading point with China at Gumla, he said delivering a talk on the topic: ‘does India have a neighbourhood policy?’

New Delhi is also working on upgradation of infrastructure like roads on border points with neighbouring countries which includes setting up of integrated check points, he said. (Read the rest of this article on yesterday’s Daily Excelsior).
