THREE Ballarat locals are hoping to make a difference to Aids orphans and former child soldiers in Uganda.
Katie Fellowes, Magda Carpenter and Jonathan Owen are heading overseas next week to spend two-and-a-half weeks helping build a home for orphans of Watoto – an organisation famous for its touring children’s choir.
The trio, members of Ballarat’s Cityside Christian Church, have raised $20,000 towards building a house for eight orphans and a carer.
They will join a group of 15 from a Horsham church for the trip.
Mrs Fellowes said Watoto cared for 1700 children. The group would also travel to Gulu in the north of Uganda, where they would present gifts to former child soldiers … (full text).
