Linked with Democracy and Human-Rights Education in Europe DARE.
Dear Colleagues, Last Thursday 2nd of April, Frank Elbers spoke on behalf DARE to the European Parliament. He briefed members of the Culture and Education Committee about the current developments in education for democratic citizenship (EDC) and human rights education (HRE) in Europe. You can find the full speech on our DARE-blog.
DARE, the Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe Network, currently consists of 44 member organisations from 28 countries in Europe, representing over 10,000 professionals involved in EDC/HRE. DARE is devoted to raise the profile of EDC/HRE, promote transcultural and transnational cooperation, and enhance the quality of education within these fields. DARE aims at achieving recognition, visibilitity and adequate resources for EDC and HRE as a core obligation for the formal and non-formal education systems throughout Europe.
DARE’s current EU-funded project focuses on Democracy and Human Rights Education in Adult Learning. Our workplan for 2008-2010 includes Special Interest Groups, Synchronized Action Days, several conferences and the above-mentioned hearing on EDC/HRE in the European Parliament.
DARE’s next activity is the conference “Pathways interconnecting History Education and Democratic Citizenship / Human Rights Education in Adult Learning” in Berlin on 29-30 May 2009. For more information, please visit the Berlin Conference.
